Is there a connection? Of course not. Earthquakes don’t care about Covid, and Covid doesn’t care about earthquakes. However, now that we are starting to see the light at the end of the terrible ordeal we’ve been experiencing, it might be time to turn some of our attention to EQ preparedness. So, here’s a tip on a subject you might have forgotten about: after a really serious EQ,we have no power – no lights. There are tons of solutions you can find online, but here is a starter: 11 Ways To Light Your Home When The Power Goes Out: https://urbansurvivalsite.com/ways-to-light-your-home-when-the-power-goes-out/ We’ve now installed over 4,200 automatic gas shutoff valves in the SF bay area. Got yours? How about the rest of your neighborhood? Our price in the East Bay is still $275 for a standard installation; slightly higher in other locations. Call or email me. So. Calif. Quakes and Us
A Wake-up Call? Imagine if the recent quakes (think: 7.1) had been on the Hayward or the San Andreas faults, instead of a lightly inhabited desert area? How long are we going to complacently keep our heads in the sand and think this isn’t going to happen near us? Sorry I’m like a broken record, but someone needs to be constantly shouting that you should: 1. Have the adequacy of your retrofit checked (see: quakeprepare.com/quakeconsult ) 2. Have an automatic gas shutoff valve installed (see: quakeprepare.com/quakevalves ) 3. Secure tall furniture/wall hangings/appliances (contact Max: maxwell786@gmail.com 4. Get an emergency back-pack kit for your vehicle(s) (see samples at:https://tinyurl.com/y6wbby22 ) Be Safe. Larry Guillot QuakePrepare.com 510-292-6571 email: larry@quakeprepare.com |

What If You’re Driving When the Quake Hits ?
You’re in your car when a serious quake hits. What to do?
- Carefully get out of traffic and stop.
- Stay in your car.
- Keep your radio on.
- Don’t stop if under or on a bridge, under trees, light posts, power lines, or signs
- If you resume driving, watch out for problems with or on the road.
- Never drive over a downed power line.
Get an emergency back pack kit for your car and have a comfortable pair of walking shoes in your trunk. And a little extra water. Expect roads to be impassable and be prepared to be walking home or to a shelter. Expect after-shocks.

And speaking of HOME, if you want it to still be there when you get back, have us install an automatic gas shut-off valve and have your retrofit checked.
Be safe.

How I Learned To Stop Worrying … And Love
The Check Off List
You don’t eat the apple in one bite and you don’t prepare for a big earthquake with one project or one accomplishment. You make a list and take care of it one thing at a time. Try this:
- Have your retrofit checked. Will your house likely stay on the foundation in a major quake?
- Secure dangerous furniture/appliances/wall hangings with fasteners made for the job, not just what looks/sounds good.
- Get an automatic gas shutoff valve – a must for you, your neighbors, friends, family.
- Have an earthquake emergency kit in your vehicle(s), plus walking shoes.

We install automatic gas shutoff valves in the SF east bay for typically $315 – slightly higher in other nearby locations. Installation takes about 30-45 minutes, always done on Saturdays. We’ve installed over 4,800 valves in 19 years, and we use the Little Firefighter, state approved valve. If you already have one, good on you!

“Happy Anniversary” to the Hayward Fault
Anniversary Is Another Wake-up Call
This Sunday, October 21, 2018, is the 150th anniversary of the 1868 rupture of the Hayward Fault. Seismologists know that it has ruptured every 150 years, on average.
The Hayward runs through one of the most densely populated areas of any known fault.
The Hayward is connected to the Rodgers Fault, which runs from San Jose to north of Healdsburg. It is likely connected to the Calavaras, which runs through much of the valley east of the Hayward.
What to do?
Have your retrofit checked
Have an automatic gas shut-off valve installed
Secure necessary furniture, appliances, and wall hangings
Keep backpack emergency kits in your vehicles
Have two weeks worth of food and water available
A reminder: my in-home QuakeConsult gives you a ton of helpful information, covering all the things mentioned above (and more). Visit:

Be safe.
