You Seem Like A “Quakelet”
The 3.8 quake on Thursday, August 13, 2026, near San Leandro, created only mild shaking, but scientists say a 7.2 quake is possible when the Hayward fully ruptures. Huge difference from 3.8 – about 2,512 times larger shaking amplitude and roughly 125,893 times more energy released.
USGS seismic scientists know that the Hayward Fault has had a major rupture every 140 years, on average, since the year 1315. If you’re wondering: we’re in the 158th year since the last one.
